Chikkaballapur, Dec 2: In a shocking incident which happened within the limits of Manchenahalli police station in the taluk of the district, a man killed his wife who was expected to deliver in a few weeks, in the middle of the road.
The victim of this c incident was Pavitra (23) from Kakalachinte village, Chikkaballapur taluk. She had married Anand (26) from Hosahalli village in the taluk in 2016. The couple used to live at Bengaluru in the past.
The driver of a highway patrol vehicle, Chandrashekhar, saw that a woman was lying on the ruad near Christian College in the early hours of Sunday December 1. He went near, found that the woman was not alive, and immediately alerted Gauribidanur police station.
Deputy superintendent of police, Ravishankar, circle police inspector, Ravi, and other personnel rushed to the spot, shifted the body to the government hospital at Gauribidanur, and checkced things in her vanity bag. They established her identity and contacted her parents. On the basis of the cellphone of the woman and the statements of the lady's parents, the police took Anand into custody.
During his questioning, Anand said that after falling in love with and marrying Pavitra, the two were living at Bengaluru. In course of time, cracks had appeared in their wedded life. His wife was working in a garments factory at Chikkaballapur. On Saturday, he called Pavitra to tell her that he would take her to his home at Bengaluru. When taking her to Bengaluru in his motorbike, he confessed to have murdered her on the highway in forest area between Doddaballapur and Gauribidanur. He also told the police that he tried to project this as an accidental death.
Parents of the murdered woman said that within weeks after the marriage, their daughter frequently visited them to get some money to run her family. Later, Anand and his family members began to pressurize for dowry, they stated.
