Kasargod, Aug 29: Three persons, accused of holding a youth named Valliyod Samshuddin (34) from Melparamba village in the district in illegal confinement, demanding for payment of a ransom of Rs 50 lac, have been arrested by the Kumble policemen.
Samshuddin, who used to work along with his brother in Mumbai, had gone missing since the last two years. A relative of Samshuddin had received a call about eight months ago, claiming that the youth had been held in confinement, and demanding ransom payment for his release. After learning this, Khairunnisa, wife of Samshuddin, had filed a police complaint. The policemen led by Kumble sub-inspector of police T M Thomas traced the call and arrested Mohammed Rafique (24), his brother Abdul Rahiman (21) and another person named Abdul Rahiman (26) from Peral Kannur. Two of the accused are also involved with some other cases, it is learnt.
The three claimed that they had tried to blackmail the family to extract money from them. At the same time, they arrested men have not been forthcoming with any explanation about the whereabouts of Samshuddin, the policemen said.
