Karkala, Aug 28: After finding that a pregnant cow had been brutally killed inside the compound of their college, students of Kebttu Sri Manjunath Pai Memorial first grade college in the town, staged protests in front of the taluk office and police station here on Thursday August 27, urging for the arrest of the culprits involved, immediately.
The cow was found lying in a pool of blood inside the compound of the students. The students boycotted their classes, went in a procession, holding placards in hand and submitted memorandums to the concerned officials.
The college watchman, who is an eye-witness to the incident, said that about ten to twelve people, who had arrived at around 3 am on Thursday in the region, chased the cow and tried to nab it but it ran helter-skelter and escaped from their hold. They then surrounded it and forced it to enter the college compound. After they hit the head and rear of the cow with clubs, the cow collapsed to the ground. When the watchman approached the offenders, he was chased away by swishing the swords, the watchman explained. He said, he came back after the miscreants left, and saw that the cow had died by then.
A case has been registered in the local police station. Of late, there have been complaints of cow thefts from various places located around Kabettu area.
