Mangaluru, Nov 27: Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat (ZP) chief executive officer (CEO) Dr R Selvamani, said that installation of sewage treatment plant (STP) has been mandated for each of the apartments and other complexes even in rural areas of Dakshina Kannada district.
He was replying to complaint made by Mamata D S Gatti at the general session of the ZP held here on Tuesday November 26 that many rural areas do not have underground drainage system. The CEO also said that currently two gram panchayats have withheld permission for buildings for want of STPs. He said even permits are not renewed in the absence of STPs.
The general session of the ZP presided over by its president, Meenakshi Shantigodu, was held on Tuesday. When a member, Koragappa Naik, raised the issue of toilets not having been built in all areas, the CEO said that steps have been taken up to complete the remaining 235 personal toilets soon.
Members, M S Mohammed and K P Varghese, said that repair of drinking water units and transfer of the units to gram panchayats have not yet been undertaken. The CEO warned the officials to complete this process in respect of all remaining units by December failing which he said he said he will send a report about the same to the government.
Members also came up with problems like schools being unable to get RTCs because of donated land, deemed forest etc. The CEO said he will write to the government to transfer donated land free of cost. He also promised to discuss with the deputy commissioner the issue of Kumki land coming in the way of getting RTCs for schools.
Members like Harish Kanjipili, Dharanendra Kumar, Sarvotham Gowda, Anita Hemanatih Shetty, U P Ibrahim, S N Manmatha etc participated in discussions.
