Mangalore, Aug 22: The Karnataka State Wakf Board has dissolved the managing committee of Katipalla mosque under Pananmbur Muslim Jamaat, and has appointed an administrative officer to run the mosque affairs.
Five persons had complained to the district Wakf Committee on behalf of the Jamaat, about the faulty functioning style of the committee president P M Salim Rafi and the committee members, who had failed to either convene the general body meeting, or present the accounts, since the last four and half years. The district Wakf Committee that went through the complaint, asked the committee to immediately convene the general body and present the accounts, but the committee failed to comply with this instruction. The district Wakf Committee then wrote to the State Wakf Board, drawing its attention to the fact that the mosque committee has been charged by a few members of not maintaining accounts for huge funds collected by it for the sake of constructing the mosque and that there are allegations of misappropriation of funds so collected, against it. It also recommended for the dissolution of the managing committee and to appoint an ad-hoc committee in its place.
The State Board then deputed auditors to check the accounts of the said mosque, who listed out irregularities found in the accounts. The mosque committee, which was asked to provide point-wise replies to the irregularities pointed within two weeks, failed to comply. Thereafter, the Board served a notice on it, asking the committee as to why it should not be dissolved.
The in-charge president of the Jamaat, who received the notice, clarified that he had collected only the construction materials for the mosque and confessed that proper accounts had not been maintained. He also requested for dropping of the proposal to dissolve the committee.
The Wakf Board, in its meeting held on August 5 this year, after considering the report of the auditors and the reply received, decided to dissolve the committee. It took the administration of the mosque under its control. B S Husainabba, KSAS (retired), was appointed as the administrative officer of the mosque. He has been asked to conduct election to the committee and send a report thereof to the Board, within the next six months.
