Moodbidri, Aug 19: Vardhamana Prashasti Peeta here has decided to confer the ‘Vardhamana Sahitya Prashasti’ on Dr Krishnamurti Hanoor, a Mysore-based eminent Kannada folklore research scholar-cum-writer and the ‘Vardhamana Udayonmukha Prashasti’ on Tara Bhat from Udupi, a noted feminist.
Peeta director Dr Na Mogasale and president Kulyadi Madhav Pai announced here on Monday August 17, that the awards will be conferred, here during a glittering ceremony to be organized on Tuesday September 22.
The ‘Sahitya Prashasti’ comprises of a gold medal, citation and Rs 10,000 in cash, while the ‘Udayonmukha Prashasti’ carries a gold medal, citation and cash component of Rs 5,000.
Dr Krishnamurti’s travelogue, ‘Haadiyolagana Jyoti’ and Tara Bhat’s novel, ‘Lotus Pond’, have been picked for the above honour.
Dr Krishnamurti is a creative writer, besides being a folklore researcher, who brought out a Kannada book titled ‘Sriyajjina Kathana Geethagalu’. He also served as the editor of English encyclopedia on Kannada folklore.
Tara Bhat is a graduate in psychology and social science, has published two Kannada novels, ‘Avyaktha’ and ‘Lotus Pond’. She has been a noted journalist and feminist, who has worked with ‘Women’s Voice’, Abhyaan Pratistan, pro-people movements and also has directed a Kannada short film, ‘Tabbali’.
