Bengaluru: Congress leaders jittery over planned adoption of Manippady report

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Nov 1: The state government has shown its inclination to adopt a report prepared seven years ago by the then chairman of Karnataka State Minorities Commission, Anwar Manippady, about land scam relating to Wakf properties. It is being analysed that this is an attempt to turn the heat on some Congress leaders.

Relating to the implementation of this report, a meeting of BJP legislators was held, and the government has decided to move the report in the house during the December session for adoption. After complaints emerged that Wakf properties were encroached upon, illegally sold or leased by influential politicians and others in 2012, a committee had been formed under the chairmanship of Anwar Manippady, and the committee was asked to prepare and submit a report on the issue.

The report submitted by the committee had said that out of 54,000 acres of Wakf property, about 29,000 acres had been illegally grabbed. The committee had evaluated the worth of the usurped property at Rs 2,30,000 crore. This 7,000 page report had mentioned that senior Congress leaders, leaders of minority organizations, former ministers and Wakf board directors and officials were involved with this scam.

Reacting to the move of the government, Anwar Manippady said that he is happy that truth will finally prevail. He said that the adoption of the report will make the Muslims aware of who actually their well-wisher is and who is harming them.
