Bantwal, Aug 11: The Tulunadu Tulushree Awards were conferred on veteran Yakshagana artiste K H Dasappa Rai and Tulu poet and litterateur Janaki Bramavar by Akshara Pratistan, Aladapadav, in a ceremony held at Punjalkatte, near here, on Sunday August 9.
Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy member Sarapady Ashok Shetty conferred the awards as part of the ‘Aatidonji Koota’ programme which was jointly organized by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, Akshara Pratistan, Murugendra Mitra Mandal, and Swastik Friends Club.
Sarapady Ashok Shetty, speaking on the occasion, urged everyone to be committed in nurturing the age-old Tulunadu traditions and cultures. He also urged the Academy to be actively involved in educating the new generation on the rich cultural hierarchy of Tulunadu.
The programme was presided over by Swastik Friends Club founder president M Tungappa Bangera. He commended the programme as it gives insight into the life of rural people, their belief, sufferings, and happiness.
Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) project officer Chandrashekar Nellyady, Pilatabettu Seva Sahakari Bank chairman K Laxminarayan Udupa, Swastik Friends Club president Prashant Punjalkatte, Murugendra Mitra Mandal president Harischandra, and Madantyar Sacred Heart College NSS officer Joseph N M, were present on the dais.
Akshara Pratistan chairman Dr Ramakrishna S welcomed the gathering. Convener A Gopal Acharya delivered the introductory speech. Director Ratnadev Punjalkatte proposed the vote of thanks. Artiste Chetan Rai Mani compered the programme.
‘Tulunada Padasiri, a musical concert in Tulu was staged by the artistes of Yaksha Loka Samskratik Sangam, B C Road, here and Koti–Chennaya Yakagana Taalamaddale programme was also staged by the members of Murugendra Mitra Mandal, as part of cultural programmes.
