Udupi, Aug 9: Chennemane, a traditional game of the coastal districts was held at Ravindra Mantapa, MGM College here on Sunday August 9 as part of Aatida Gobbu, a programme reflecting rural sports organized especially during the lull in agricultural activities during monsoon season. Taluk physical education officer Sitanadi Vittal Shetty inaugurated the Chennemane competitions.
Speaking on the occasion Shetty said that it was not as essential to converse in local language as it was to preserve the age-old Tulunadu traditions and practices in daily routine and festivities. It is sad that the general perception today in the society is that people don’t accept excellent virtues easily, instead accept the ill-conceived notions readily and attempt to highlight them in the society, he said.
The programme was organized by district Tulu Koota. Koota vice-president Eshwar Shetty Chitpady presided. Programme organizer Nanda Kumar was also present.
Koota secretary Kishore C Udyavar compered the programme. More than 60 people including students from across the district participated in the programme.
