Kasargod, Aug 9: Police arrested two notorious robbers who were fleecing the vehicle travellers on the national highways (NH) of Kannur and Kasargod districts.
The arrested have been identified as M Abbas (34) from Sullia and C M Haneef (34) from Madikeri. The duo was taken into custody at Kannur by Pariyaram Medical College police. Police informed that the duo were the brain behind the robbery undertaken on these national highways after midnight. The team would use rented cars from Karnataka to travel to carry out robberies
Abbas and Haneef , who were in the Gulf had returned to India only a year ago. Two others Abdu and Kabir are involved along with the duo in carrying out the robberies, informed police. The team was involved in robbery of a stereo of a car belonging to a businessman in Pilattara as well as in an incident of assaulting on the driver of tanker parked on the road in Kannur two days ago.
Following the incident, the driver of the tanker had filed a complaint with the police. In a swift operation, the police traced a car with Karnataka registration number abandoned on the side of the road in Kannur and on investigation stumbled upon the duo.
