Mangalore, Aug 9: The suspected H1N1 cases (Swine flu) in Dakshina Kannada district have reached 13 so far with three more cases of suspects reported on Saturday August 8. Three students from NIT-K, Suratkal have been admitted to a hospital in the city suspecting to have contracted H1N1 virus.
Meanwhile, the girl with first case of confirmed H1NI in the district, a Malaysian student from KMC has been discharged from the hospital in the city on Saturday after undergoing five days of treatment. District Health Officer Dr Jagannath has informed that she has completely recovered from the flu. The swab report of the suspected tenth H1NI case reported on Friday August 7 of a girl student from KMC is yet to arrive, he informed.
So far out of the 13 suspected H1N1 cases reported in the district, five cases were found to be positive. Out of the five confirmed cases, one has been discharged and the other four are being treated in separate quarantine wards.
All Students of NIT-K to be screened
With three students suspected to have contracted H1N1 virus, it has been decided to screen all students of NIT-K. Accordingly, the tests on students have begun.
It has been proposed to declare a week’s holiday for all the students from foreign countries studying in colleges in Mangalore and also extend the holiday of the students those who have contracted or suspected to have contracted the virus, said in-charge deputy commissioner Prabhakar Sharma.
