Mangaluru, Oct 25: Even though the exhaustive verification of voter list envisaged by the election commission has completed about a month since the campaign began, Dakshina Kannada district, widely recognized as having been inhabited by educated people, has not performed well.
In the state as a whole, 53 percent people have already got their voter lists verified or modified, but the progress has been sluggish in Dakshina Kannada district. While the neighbouring Udupi stands third as far as performance under this campaign is considered in the state, Dakshina Kannada is far behind at 26th spot.
Out of 10.07 lac voters in Udupi district, 7.24 lac forming 72 percent of the electorate have got the lists verified. At the same, only 8.10 lac voters out of 17.23 lac voters in Dakshina Kannada have gone through this process. The voter verification can be done online or in person.
Even though there is provision for revision of voter lists every year, this time, the exercise has been undertaken on integrated way. The voters can verify the details on voter helpline app by using their mobile phones. The same can also be done through block level officials, Seva Sindhu and other service centres, polling officials, taluk office, offices of assistant commissioners etc. If necessary, helpline 1950 can also be called.
Even among the Dakshina Kannada district, Mangaluru (north) constituency, Mangaluru (south) constituency, and Mangaluru constituencies have been far behind, with only 1.87 lac voters out of the total electorate of 6.75 lac.
