Mangalore, Aug 6: "If it is noticed that files were hurriedly disposed off on a large scale by the in-charge commissioner of the City Corporation at the fag end of his tenure, orders would be issued for thorough cross-verification and for withholding payment of irregular bills, if any. In the past, such things had occurred, and the payment was withheld in the case of 1,300 files. As of now, no payment have been made in respect of these files," said district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar, when his attention was drawn by the reporters about the alleged disposal of a large number of files by the outgoing in-charge commissioner of the City Corporation, just before he was to hand over charge to the new incumbent.
In-charge commissioner of the Corporation, P G Ramesh, is to hand over charge to the new commissioner Dr Vijay Prakash on Thursday August 6. Some corporators have alleged that the in-charge commissioner had been clearing hundreds of files since the last two days, and a few contractors were with him for a prolonged time. It is said, the files were also cleared by carrying them home, and that a contractor, who was accused of forging the signature of the then commissioner, was with the out-going commissioner. The corporators suspect that bills amounting to lacs of rupees have been cleared during the last two days, without subjecting them to thorough verification.
