Udupi, Oct 17: Welcomgroup Graduate School Of Hotel Administration organized a cycle rally within the premises of Manipal Academy of Higher Education on the occasion of World Food Day on Wednesday.
The rally was flagged off by MAHE pro-vice-chancellor, Dr Poornima Baliga from the main building of the university and the cyclists went around the campus to create awareness on the theme for this year, 'Healthy diets for a #zerohungerworld'.
The event was also to promote an awareness programme launched by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India 'The Eat Right Movement'. Over 100 students and faculty of WGSHA took part in the rally. Addressing the cyclists before the start, Dr Baliga said that most kids nowadays have wrong diet plans to lose weight, not knowing what is right and wrong. It can be balanced with good exercise.
Malnutrition is seen commonly in pregnant women. Even school children need proper nutrition. Everyone needs to have balanced food and along with that, exercise can keep everything right for a fit India.
"The theme for today is zero hunger. The idea is to create awareness among friends, family and local communities. We have affiliated with FSSAI for the promotion of fit India,” said chef Thirugnanasambantham, principal of WGSHA.
Inter-varsity squash
Punjab University, Chandigarh and Savitribai Phule Pune cruised through to the next round of the All-India inter-university Squash for women at the Marena Indoor Sports complex here on Wednesday.
While Punjab had a bit of a struggle against Anna University Chennai beating them 3-2, Savitribai Phule outplayed University of Rajasthan 3-1 on the opening day of the three-day meet. Punjab will take on University of Kerala next round to be played later on Thursday night.
University of Kerala got a walkover from Allahabad University, Punjabi University Patiala got a walkover from University of Kota and Mohanlal Sukhadia University Udaipur got a walkover from Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith.
The semi-finalists last year, Madras University, MAHE, Delhi University and Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University Raipur will begin from the quarter-finals. The Delhi team is expected to arrive on Friday.
Earlier in the morning, the championship was inaugurated by Dr H S Ballal, pro-chancellor MAHE. Asian junior champion, Ravi Dixit was the guest of honour. Also present at the inaugural function were Dr Poornima Baliga, pro-vice-chancellor, Health Sciences, Dr Vinod Nayak, secretary MAHE Sports Council, Dr Fiddy Davis, head department of Sports Science and Dr Shridhar H, director sports.
