Udupi, Aug 2: A day-long convention to create awareness on Kannada was held at the Poornaprajna College mini auditorium here on Saturday August 1.
Inaugurating the convention jointly organized by Kannada Development Authority (KDA) and college educationist K R Hande said that Kannada medium schools lack basic infrastructure. In order to make Kannada medium schools more attractive, there is a need to take up works to develop Kannada, he said.
Hande said that English should be taught in Kannada medium schools from class I and Kannada lovers too should not raise an objection in this regard. Moreover teaching Kannada language in English medium schools too should be made compulsory, he added.
Litterateur and KDA member Vishnu Naika said that there is a need for pride and concern about one’s mother tongue. This will not only lead to development of the language, but also strengthen one’s culture, he said.
College principal professor Rajmohan presided.
