Mangalore, Jul 29: G Ramadas Prabhu (73), owner of the famous Central Silk Palace, Gurpur, that draws customers from all over the district, breathed his last at his residence in Gurpur due to cardiac arrest, on Tuesday July 28. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
Prabhu was the managing trustee of Gurpur Sri Varadaraja Venkataramana temple and president of Sri Varadaraja Bhajana Mandal. He also had served as the treasurer of Sri Ramanath Damodar temple, vice president of Dakshina Kannada Cloth Merchants Association, treasurer of Gurpur government PU College Development Committee and member of the governing council of the Aided Hindu higher primary school.
Pai was a philanthropist to the core, besides being a patron of various arts. District in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, district BJP president Monappa Bhandary, general secretary Srikar Prabhu and various other people have mourned his death.
