Mangaluru, Oct 2: St Aloysius Gonzaga School paid homage to the great leader and visionary, Mahatma Gandhi on October 2 at St Aloysius Gonzaga School hall.

The Gonzagaites participated in the Gandhi Jayanti celebration with great enthusiasm.

Dr Rose Veera D’Souza, associate professor, HOD Department of Political Science, St Aloysius College (autonomous) was the chief guest of the day.

Principal, Fr Melwyn Lobo SJ and vice-principal, Jacintha D'Costa were the other dignitaries.

Dr Rose Veera D’Souza spoke on Gandhian ideals, compassion toward humanity and also emphasized the importance of Shramadhan.

The principal in his address mentioned Gandhi’s purpose for life and aspirations of the people. He advised the students to withstand challenges with courage.

The programme commenced with a 'Sarv Dharm Prarthana' by the scouts and guides. A cultural programme based on the theme 'Principles of Gandhi' was organized to impart awareness on the greatness of Gandhi and his role in the freedom struggle to make India an independent nation. The significance of the day was given by Ethan Pinto of class VI, a patriotic dance was performed highlighting the life of Gandhi, a video presentation on 'Gandhian values' was presented and a skit depicting Gandhi’s love and compassion for the people was presented. Various competitions were conducted on account of Gandhi Jayanti and the winners were honoured with certificates.

The programme concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Rhea Sequeira of class VIII followed by the National Anthem.

Thereafter, the unit of scouts and guides took part in Shramadhan. The celebration left an indelible mark on the Gonzagaite’s about the unforgettable contributions of the Father of our Nation toward freedom struggle and the values he practiced and advocated.
