Mangalore, Jul 22: Passengers at Mangalore Central railway station were inconvenienced on Wednesday July 22, after one of the compartments of a goods train loosened from its couplings as it passed over the railway bridge in Ullal.
This caused a backup of other trains and led to delays of one hour. The goods train which was traveling towards Thiruvananthapuram came apart around 5.40 pm. It was stuck on the bridge for about three hours.
The tenth compartment from the end separated from the front portion of the goods train.
Following this incident, Malabar Express left the station 55 minutes late. Many passengers were found venting their anger against the railway department for causing the trains to be late.
An officer from the railway department said that some technical problem caused the incident.
A source at the railway station said that the negligence of the staff caused this incident as they had not checked the compartments’ couplings properly.
Officials at Mangalore Central railway station said that the late running of one train would affect the schedules of other trains also.
After it was repaired, the goods train continued to its destination.
