Udupi, Oct 1: Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP, Shobha Karandlaje, stated that Navayuga Infra, which was given contract for undertaking national highway works here, has been set a fresh deadline of December 31 to complete all works including Kundapur flyover and other works relating to national highway. She said that if the company misses this deadline, legal action would be initiated against the company.
In reply to questions raised by media representatives here on Monday, September 30 about the haphazard state of national highway works, Shobha said that contract for national highway works was entrusted to Navayuga before the BJP government rose to power. "After our government took charge, they stopped work citing financial crunch. Union minister, Nitin Gadkari, had convened a meeting and extended financial support. But the company has again stopped its works," she noted.
Karandlaje said that the minister concerned had recently held meeting with the company representatives, during which meeting the company representatives promised to begin work immediately after the end of the rainy season. She said that the government will wait till December 31 and take suitable steps as may be deemed fit.
