Kasargod, Oct 1: Candidates nominated by major political parties submitted their nomination papers on Monday September 30 for the prestigious Manjeshwar assembly by-poll.
Monday was the last day for filing of nomination papers.
United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate, M C Qamaruddin submitted his nomination papers in Manjeshwar block panchayat development office. He was accompanied by MP, Raj Mohan Unnithan, former minister, C T Ahmedali, district congress president, Hakim Kunnil, Congress leader, B Subbayya Rai, A K M Ashraf and others. Speaking after filing the nomination papers, Qamaruddin said that he is confident about the UDF winning the by-poll. “I have the support and blessings of all. The party is united. I will carry out extensive campaign for victory,” he said.
Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate, Shankar Rai, came in a procession with party leaders from CPM district office and submitted his nomination papers in the office of Kasargod district collector. He was accompanied by CPM district secretary A V Balakrishnan, former MP, P Karunakaran, and others. Speaking thereafter, he said he has complete support of Tulunadu people and expressed the view that he will win the Manjeshwar assembly by-poll.
BJP candidate, Kuntaru Ravish Tantry, filed his nomination in Kasargod DC office. He had arrived in the company of district president K Srikanth, BJP state leader, P K Krishnadas, and others.
With this, a total of 13 persons have filed nomination papers for the Manjeshwar assembly by-poll. The nominations will be scrutinized on Wednesday October 1.
October 3 will be the last date for withdrawing nominations. The by-poll will be held on October 21 and the counting of votes will be conducted on October 24.
