Bhatkal: Two suspects arrested over illegal possession of country gun

Bhatkal, Sep 30: Forest officials have arrested two suspects of assaults on forest officials who had gone to seize country gun illegally held in Hijjila, Kekkod village, Bhatkal on Saturday night.

The arrested suspects are Kekkod resident Ashok Chikkayya Marati(39) and Toodalli Nandaragadde, Byndoor resident Vilcent Sebastin(40).

The officials had raided the residence of Raju Marati at Kekkod, confiscated the gun and questioned the suspects when they came to know that the gun belonged to Vilcent Sabastin.

When they went to the residence of Vilcent Sebastin, Santhosh Sebastin, the elder brother of the suspect has assaulted Byndoor forest officer and staff with deadly weapons and fled. Vilcent has been arrested under wildlife protection Act and illegal arms Act and remanded in judicial custody.

Forest officials have lodged a police complaint against Santhosh Sebastin on charges of assault and hindrance of official’s duty.
