Moodbidri, Jul 21: Veteran Yakshagana artiste, organizer, and former principal Prabhakar Joshi was felicitated during the ‘Taalamaddale’ programme, held at Sri Venkataramana temple, Ponnechari, recently.
The programme was organized by ‘Yaksha Sangama’, a Yakshagana organization, as part of their decennial celebrations.
Karnataka Yakshagana Academy president Kumble Sundar Rao, in his presidential address, said that Yakshagana enthusiasts have great expectations of the Academy in helping improve the prevailing situation of the art form and stressed that he would do his best in promoting Yakshagana across the nation.
Rao added that his successor would also direct his energies towards this.
Joshi, acknowledging the honour, said that the future of Yakshagana lies with the people of undivided Dakshina Kannada (DK) district, regardless of caste, creed, and religion.
Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP) local convener Sudarshan M, M J Rao, editor, ‘Suma Souraba’, Kannada fortnightly published from Mangalore, and MLA Abhayachandra Jain were the chief guests.
Siddakatte Vishwanath Shetty delivered the felicitation address.
Organizers Vittal Prabhu, Shantharam Kudwa, and Sadashiv Rao, were present on the dais.
Yakshagana Taalamaddale episodes, ‘Nasa Chedana’ and ‘Subhadra Kalyana’ were staged by the artistes of Yaksha Sangama on the occasion.
