Udupi, Sep 27: Members of the United Forum of Corporation Bank Unions, Joint Committee of Employees’ Association, Udupi District committee, in association with Haji Abdulla Memorable Charitable Trust, Udupi held candle light march on Thursday, September 26, opposing the retrograde and draconian decision of the government to merge Corporation Bank with Union Bank of India and also, opposing the amalgamation of other 10 public sector banks (PSB) to create four entities.
The huge protest march began from Jodukatte, passed through Court Road, Diana Circle-Alankar- Service bus stand and culminated at Corporation Bank, Founder's Branch Compound, Udupi.
K Shankar, convener of Workers’ Associations Joint Committee, district unit Udupi, Satish Shetty, general secretary, Corporation Bank Officials’ Union, Vincent D’Souza, Corporation Bank Employees' Union, Dr P V Bhandary of Haji Abdulla Memorable Charitable Trust and Sayyad Siraz addressed the protestors.
Ram Mohan, president, District Bank Employees’ Union, Ashok Kotian, Bank Officials’ Union, Herald D’Souza, convener, District Bank Union Federation Forum, Ravindra, Bank Employees Federation and other union leaders Jayan Malpe, Raghuram Krishna Ballal, Yogish Shet, Nithyananda Olakadu, Kasim Saheb, Sudheendra, Balakrishna Shetty, Shashidhar Golla, Kaviraj, K V Bhat, Vishwanath, Premnath, Shankar, Nagesh Nayak and others were present.
A large number of bank employees, workers, officials and public also participated in the protest march.
