Mangaluru, Sep 27: Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra inaugurated KMC Women and Child Centre which is set up at KMC hospital, Jyothi in a grand function here at TMA Pai Hall on Thursday, September 26.
In her inaugural address, Shilpa said," I am happy to inaugurate women and child centre that has been set up at KMC hospital. This is a much needed wing for women and children. Women should not ignore their health and value themselves. I am amused to see all the expecting mothers taking part in the contest. Thank you KMC for inviting me and reconnecting me to my routes.”
“KMC gives all provisions required for health care. They have the right doctors who can treat you. Taking care of one’s own health should be a priority in life,” said Shilpa Shetty Kundra.
When programme host R J Anurag spoke about Shilpa Shetty promoting famous Tulu Nadu delicacy Jackfruit cake (Pelakai Adya) on social media, she said “It would be nice if you had brought Pelakai Adya if not Kori Roti. I would have tasted.”
With a dedicated team of highly skilled obstetricians, gynecologists, neonatologists and pediatricians, women and child centre at KMC will be a one stop solution for women. The centre will provide some unique services for expectant mothers like buddy service (a friend to guide a pregnant woman through her pregnancy and answer her queries), antenatal classes, Lamaze (a technique to build a mother's confidence in her ability to give birth), nutrition and diet session and memorable experience through photo shoot celebrations and baby kit.
Services like high risk pregnancy care, pre conception, counseling and medical genetic facilities, specialized diagnostic services - anomaly scan, NT scan, fetal ECHO, 24 hrs laboratory and blood bank services and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) would also be available. The centre will also provide high end neonatal intensive care unit for preterm babies.
Other enhanced facilities like day care procedures will be conducted. Cancer screening facility including pap smear and HPV test, family planning advice, genetic or any gynecological emergency, counselling, treatment related to menopause or menstrual disorder, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, colposcopy procedures, puberty related disorder treatment, post partum sterilization would be available under one roof.

The contest required two photographs of would be moms and one photo with the family. Expecting mothers living in and around the city were eligible to take part in the competition.
The winner Nafeesa Malik was awarded with prizes worth Rs 75,000 while runner up Mohnisha D’Souza received a prize worth Rs 50,000. All finalists got prizes worth Rs 3,500.
Total 350 would be mothers registered for Wow Mom contest out of which 10 were selected for finals.
Pro chancellor Manipal academy of higher education Dr H S Ballal welcomed the gathering. R J Anurag compered the event and Sindhu Surendra proposed vote of thanks.
Regional chief clinical services KMC hospital Dr Anand Venugopal, regional chief operating officer KMC hospital Saghir Siddiqui and others were present.
