Kalaburagi, Sep 26: The JMFC court at Aland in the district has handed down a month of civil imprisonment to the deputy commissioner of the district, zilla panchayat chief executive officer, zilla panchayat executive engineer and road contracator. It has also ordered for the attachment of the deputy commissioner's office for the compensation due towards land acquisition.
The case dates back to 15 years. The zilla panchayat had planned to lay road in the land belonging to Chatrayya Mathapathi in Narona village, Aland tlauk, without acquiring the land as per act and without paying compensation. The road was meant to connect Mannoli village. Mathapathi had filed suit in the JMFC court at Aland in 2004, questioning this action.
The court, which considered the petition, had ordered the concerned not to undertake any work in the land belonging to Mathapathi till compensation is disbursed. The court had asked the zilla panchayat chief executive officer and executive engineer to release Rs 2,59.000 to the concerned towards acquisition of land. The executive engineer had written to the assistant commissioner. The correspondence went on and the farmer did not get money.
Frustrated by long wait, Chatrayya approached court, alleging violation of court order and non-payment of compensation. The court, which took serious view of the incident, issued order for the attachment of the deputy commissioner's office for recovery of the said sum, and imposed one month's civil imprisonment punishment to four persons including the zilla panchayat executive engineer, contractor of the road and two others, said advocate, Raveendra Injallikar, addressing a press meet here on Wednesday September 25.
Chatrayya Mathapathi, advocates, Surekha Patil, Sidramayya Hiremath and some farmers from the village were present at the press meet.
