Mangaluru, Sep 23: The two-day national level aeromodelling event 'Aerophilia 2019' held at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, here came to an amazing close on Monday.
on both the days, Sahyadri College had planes flying in the skies, drones racing against each other, water rockets launching off and bots battling on the ground. Paper presentations, paper planes, drones race, death race, robo sumo and treasure hunt events were held on Monday. There were also technical talks by Ashwin L Shetty and Wg Cdr, Polu Sreedhar.
The chief guest for the valedictory event Cdr Narayanan shared his experience and said that Aerophilia 2019 had been an exciting and heartwarming experience. He also said, “There are very few technical colleges in India that conduct aeromodelling events like this. Aerophilia has been growing from strength to strength since the last two years and the level of competition between the participants has also increased. This event has allowed for interactions with ISRO and other organizations that are into aerospace. Very soon just like US, even in India the cost of air travel may become less than the cost of rail travel." He thanked the organizers and the Sahyadri College Management for hosting the event so graciously and comfortably and making his stay a memorable one. Bhandary Foundation trustee, Devadas Heggde, principal, Dr R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, vice-principal Prof S S Balakrishna were also present at the valedictory programme.
Vishal Rao of Kinetic Hobbies who has been a constant support for this event for the past four years also spoke on the occasion of the valedictory ceremony and said, “Every year when Aerophilia comes, I am as excited as a child. It always feels great to be with like-minded people. Especially this year, Aerophilia has been the best and I believe that it will be even better the next time."

Joel and Srijan Prasad from Cambridge School, Vignesh from Manipal School and Vishan from Lourdes Central School received special mention as 'Young Talent of Aerophilia'.
Vidur and team who won second place in the drone racing competition shared his experience and said, “It is our first time at Aerophilia and we had a very good experience. The entire event was very well coordinated. We thank the organizer for making us feel at home."
