Mumbai, Sep 21: Reshma Suvarna, who was kept under house arrest by her employer in Kuwait and later rescued by Indian social workers, has reached her home in Mumbai on Saturday, September 20.
Reshma travelled via Kuwait-Dubai-Mumbai connecting flight and landed in Mumbai Airport on Saturday morning. She was received by her children and at the airport.
Speaking to Daijiworld, Reshma said, “By grace of God, I have reached back home safe and reunited with my children and family. I never thought I will reach back alive. I have faced tough days in Kuwait. A couple of times, my employer tried to kill me. But the timely intervention of Indian social activists, I was saved from hell. They handed over me to officials of Indian Embassy and past two months they accommodated me at Embassy shelter. After a month long legal procedures, yesterday evening I got my passport and ticket.”

“I thank all Indian social workers, especially Mohandas Kamath, Raj Bhandary, Madhav Naik, Vijay Fernandes, Mogaveera Sangha and Ganesh Poojari from Mangaluru. The officials of Indian embassy also took care of me and helped me complete legal procedures. I thank all who prayed for my safe return,” she added.
Six months back, Reshma Suvarna was taken to Kuwait for employment by Mangaluru based agents Jaber and Anwar. She was handed over to a Kuwaiti family, to work as a maid. The Kuwaiti agent, who introduced Reshma to the family, was given 1000 Kuwaiti Dinars as commission.
However, once under the family’s care, Reshma’s life became a nightmare. She was made to do chores from early morning up to midnight and was often denied food. Once she completed her work, she would be locked in a dark room. She was restricted from maintaining contact with her family and was not allowed to go out.
Meanwhile, Reshma’s family members in Mangaluru, made repeated attempts to contact her. However, all their efforts went in vain. When they contacted Jaber and Anwar, they failed to receive any response from them. As a last resort, the family members appealed Indians settled in Kuwait to help find Reshma
In a swift action, Indian social workers rescued Reshma who was kept under house arrest by her employer. She was handed over to Indian Embassy officials on July 4.
