Mangaluru, Sep 21: The Library Advisory Committee of St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru, in collaboration with VTU Consortium, VTU, Belagavi organized VTU Consortium Training Programme on ‘E-Resources for Academic Excellence’ to faculty, students and researchers on September 20.
The programme was inaugurated by chief guest Dr Khaisar Muneebulla Khan, former professor & chairperson, department of Library & Information Science Mangalore University and Dr K R Mulla, chief librarian and coordinator, VTU Consortium, VTU, Belagavi, by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, director of SJEC, Fr Rohith D’Costa and Fr Alwyn Richard D’Souza, assistant directors of SJEC, Dr Rio D’Souza, principal of SJEC, Sumangala N, HOD of MCA & chairperson of Library & Learning Committee, Dr Felcy D’Souza, chief librarian of SJEC & convener of the programme and Dr Anjali Ganesh, professor in MBA department & coordinator of the programme.
During the workshop, National Librarians Day was observed to commemorate the birthday of Dr S R Ranganathan who is popularly known as Father of Library Science.
Dr Felcy D’Souza welcomed the gathering and highlighted the objectives of the programme.
The Mobile Library App was released by the chief guest during the inaugural.
Dr Khaisar Muneebulla Khan, in his keynote address, mentioned the key role of the librarian and said that the present learning is information-centric. He also stated that the Information Explosion makes identification of the relevant information difficult and spoke about the need to have the hands-on training on the usage of E-Resources. He also mentioned that research needs to be disseminated to prevent the diminution of research work.
Dr K R Mulla, in his address, mentioned that VTU consortium has been initiating several best practices to promote E-Resources to serve its stakeholders. Also, he stated that Libraries have become the backbone to research students and academicians in the present age. Since the technology has grown manifold, he recommended supporting the management of the library also in an innovative way.
Dr Rio D’Souza said that a well-equipped library is a need of the hour. He spoke to the facilities in the Central Library of the college and appreciated its well-organized resources.
In his presidential address, Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, motivated learners by saying learners should look for information, insights and ideas. He went onto say that SJEC has done large investment on E-Resources. He called upon the participants to make the best use of the workshop.
Dr Anjali Ganesh proposed the vote of thanks.
The programme was attended by 230 participants from SJEC and delegates from engineering colleges of Mangaluru region.
