Kundapur, Sep 20: In rarest of rare incidents that has taken place at Hosur in the taluk, the inmates of a house have built a temple for the cow, which was like part of their family, when it died.
The couple, who have shown their love towards their loving cow Laxmi in this unique way are Lalita Patagar, headmistress of Hosur school and her husband Shivananda, lecturer in ITI.
For this couple, Laxmi was not the just a cow but a part of their family. For 15 long years,Laxmi was their love, affection and devotion. The husband and wife are still not accepting that Laxmi is no more with them. That is why they have made their loving cow Laxmi immortal by building a temple over the grave, where the dead cow is buried.
Laxmi was just three years old, when the couple brought her home. The cow was brought on the house warming ceremony. The couple had an emotional bond with the cow with the belief that it has brought light in their house as well as in life. Laxmi, the cow also used to reciprocate the affection shown by the couple. Every Friday, Laxmi used to come from the cowshed and would stand in front of the main entrance of the house. It did not move id turmeric and vermilion were not applied on its face, says the couple. In addition, Laxmi used to wait for her owner Lalita outside the school where she was the headmistress. This emotional attachment of Laxmi made the couple to have a strong bond towards her.
After Laxmi died, the couple built a small shrine over its grave. They built a beautiful Katte and shrine with a statue of Panchaloha and got it installed according to Hindu traditions with homa and havanas through a Hindu priest. Lalita and Shivananda offer pooja at this shrine every day. Now this cow temple is attracting the attention of the local public also.
This teacher couple wishes that the whole world should fill with the goodness. With the same broad mindedness they conduct pooja in the temple at their house every day. Though they built the temple secretly without any propaganda and show off, it has gained popularity in the locality.
