Mangaluru: Exemplary act of compassion - Law student donates her hair to cancer-affected children

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Sep 20: The beauty of a girl lies in her hair. Many young girls and women go to extreme extents in taking care of their hair in a bid to look better. However, a young law student defied this myth and donated her beautiful hair to bring a smile on the face of the children affected with cancer.

Pavithra Shetty, who is studying law in SDM Law College of the city is the one who has done this bold and kind-hearted act. Pavithra, who is a native of Navara in Kollapur of Maharashtra state had been to a private hospital a few days ago, as she was unwell. The doctor had asked Pavithra to wait outside his consulting room for her turn. Two young children, who were also waiting for their turn of chemotherapy, touched the hair of Pavithara and said ‘Akka your hair is beautiful’. Pavithra noticed the helplessness of the children of not being able to have hair because of chemotherapy and decided to donate her hair. She contacted a cancer service organization and donated her 18 inch long hair.

Responding to her act, Pavithra said, "It is true that the hair doubles the beauty of a girl or lady. But when I saw the cancer-affected children, I felt that their innocent smile is more beautiful than the beauty of my hair. I discussed this with my mom and donated my hair. An awareness in this respect needs to be created in the society."

Many students of various colleges of the city have donated their hair for the purpose of cancer-affected people. This is done through the organization, which is involved in collecting the hair for such patients. In addition, the organization is also involved in preparing artificial hair for cancer patients. Many organizations in the society are also creating awareness with regards to hair donation.

Certainly it takes a lot of courage to do for a college student in her young age.I salute her for her overcoming all her fear or courage to do this, with the thought of help to these small angels to bring smile. Her hair will certainly grow in some time.but giving off needs lot of courage and love towards the next.May God bless her.

Truly a bold step taken. Hats off just to bring smile and happiness to a child you took such a step. Each and everyone can take a step and set a example in the society by doing something gud to others. "It's not important how long we live, it's important how we live".
