Mangaluru, Sep 19: Social activist Gerard Towers, who Is known for raising his voice on problems faced by citizens in Mangaluru city through unique protests, has been felicitated with award ‘Best person with pro-people concern’ by Mirror Now.
Mirror Now is one of the popular TV news channels in the country and has felicitated five active citizens who strive to solve civic and social problems. Mangaluru’s Nagarika Hitha Vedike founder president Gerard Towers is one among them.
A couple had fallen in a pothole and died in Bengaluru a few years ago. Gerard Towers, through Mirror Now news channel, had effectively highlighted BBMP’s irresponsibility. He had strived to obtain due compensation for the family from the civic body.
Gerard has also highlighted hundreds of problems in the country through Mirror Now channel. Therefore, the channel has identified him along with Sunil Chakraborty, Piyush Saha, Ayush Gupta and Akanksha Varma for the honour.
Gerald Towers is also a member of MCC Civic Group and an RTI activist. He has also highlighted civic issues on Daijiworld TV such as pothole riddled roads, sufferings of people due to scarcity of drinking water, illegal sand trade, street light problems and irresponsibility of Mescom officials among others. He has not only raised the issues with the concerned civic agencies but has got them solved through constant follow-up.
