Bahrain, Jul 14: Friday July 10 was a great day for the members of Guru Seva Samithi-Bahrain Billawas, for their annual food festival competition and inducting the new committee for 2009 – 2010.
The programme started at 10.30 am at Papillon Restaurant. Lolakshi Rajaram welcomed the gathering and a hymn was then sung by Lolakshi Rajaram, Purnima and Usha Kiran, before Gurushloka song sung by Arya Raj Kumar.
The president of Guru Seva Samithi in his address to the members informed that they have donated Rs 50,000/- to poor Billawa students of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts through Yuva Vahinia local organization. He also informed the members that they have helped two patients in Dakshina Kannada suffering from brain tumor and throat cancer and distributed Rs. 50,000/- each to their families.
Raj Kumar is also first president of Gulf Billawa Okkuta consisting of six G C C states of Gulf region and at present, he is the president of Bahrain Billawas for the second time. He also informed that the Bahrain Billawas will have annual blood donations camps, picnic, sports and games events for members and their families and they are planning to have a throwball team and cricket team for ladies. For the annual day programme the Association is planning to bring in prominent personalities of Dakshina Kannada and film artists from Bangalore. They are also planning to support Billawa Engineering College at Brammavar near Udupi which will be the first engineering College of Billawa community.
Later on, the president introduced the new committee for 2009-2010 and welcomed Meera Ashok Amin, president of Brahmasree Narayana Guru Mahila Sangha of Mangalore, a good social worker and leading prominent member and vice-president of ladies wing of Congress in Mangalore.
The day’s center of attraction was “Made for Each Other” or “Adharsha Dampati” competition for married couples.
Chandrakala Mohan and Kamalaksha Amin conducted the programme. There were seven couples. The competition comprised of three rounds of humorous questions and answers relating to the childhood, marriage, honeymoon and present life of the participants. The audience appreciated the event with round of applause for each and every one for their answers.

First: Sunil Poojary and Kiran Sunil
Second: Jagdish Jeppo and Poornima
The president also honoured ‘Jodi No1’ Parikshit and Shobitha with special prize. Raj Boloor and Rekha couple won the prize for best costume.
Another attraction of the day was the annual cookery competition with 50 types dishes in vegetarian and non-vegetarian categories including dhum chicken, chicken ghee roast, chicken ghasi, bangude pulimunchi, mutton rogan ghosh, mutton kadai, marwai-pundi, kori sukka, kanchala ghasi, touthe padewgi, ghasi and jeera .

Two Judges of the competition Jacob Rajesh D’Cruze from Kolkata and Rosy Rai from Meghalya were also honoured by the Samithi. They are the executive chef and assistant chef of Ramee Palace Hotel-Bahrain.
The whole show was anchored by Lolakshi Rajaram,Chanrakala Mohan and Kamalaksh Amin.
