Mangaluru, Sep 17: To commemorate and celebrate the popularity of Hindi throughout the nation, Hindi Divas is celebrated on September 14 each year.
On account of this, the Hindi Sangha and department of Hindi of St Aloysius College (autonomous) organized the Hindi Saptah (Hindi Week) which concluded with the Hindi Divas celebrations on September 14.
Ravishankar, in-charge of official language, Corporation Bank Ltd was the chief guest. Dr A M Narahari, registrar of the college presided over the programme, Dr Alwyn D’Sa, controller of examinations, Dr Mukunda Prabhu, HOD, department of Hindi, Roicy Rekha Braggs, president of Hindi Sangha and Sinan, secretary of Hindi Sangha were present on the dais.
Addressing the gathering, Ravishankar enlightened the students with various insights into the scope, development and popularity of Hindi. He also informed the students about the job opportunities in the field of Hindi. He also explained the various posts available in Government offices and various other offices like Proof Readers, News Readers, Translators, TV Anchors, News Editors, Hindi Software developers etc. He said that it is important to learn Hindi to reach the people.
As part of Hindi Saptah, the Hindi department organized various competitions like retro singing, poetry and Varna Chitra. The winners of these events were awarded on the occasion.
Besides this, the students put up a cultural programme. The highlight of the event was ‘Zaika Hindustan Ki’, a food fest where food items from various parts of the nation were served. The presence of students in large numbers led the event to a grand success.
Shravya compered the programme. Afra Khan welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest. Nurain rendered the vote of thanks.
