Karwar, Sep 15: In an incident that took place in the city, a young couple reportedly duped more than 50 people to the tune of lacs of rupees promising them of jobs in British Airways.
Marvin D'Souza, resident of Shirawada in Karwar and Ankita Raikar, resident of Yellapur are the couple who have cheated 54 unemployed youth saying that they will provide them with jobs in British Airways as ground staff.
A complaint in this regard is registered in Yellapur police station.

Marvin D'Souza has allegedly collected Rs one to 1.5 lac from each one of the 54 aspirants from areas of Hassan, Honnavar, Siddapur and Sirsi promising them of job as ground staff in British Airways. He has told the youths that he has been appointed as the recruiting agent by the company and he will be selecting the required manpower. Marvin had even provided the aspirants with offer letter, uniform and duplicate ID cards also in order to pull them in his dragnet.
In addition, Marvin had brought all the aspirants to Bengaluru and gave them training in the night shift for two months in the Noval tech park at Koodlugate as per the information given by the police. He had introduced his girlfriend Ankita Raikar as the assistant HR of British Airways with the name Zarra Khan. The youths were trained through Ankita. The aspirants had spent money for the lodging and training from their own pocket.
Marvin had told the aspirants that they will all get the call for employment within September 12 and all of them have to join duty at the Kempegowda International Airport itself. However, then he went absconding.
The 54 youths, both boys and girls had come to the Kempegowda International Airport on September 12 to join duty. However, they came to know that they have been taken for a ride. When they tried to contact Marvin immediately, he was not available for contact. When they went to his apartment, they came to know that both Marvin and Ankita have vacated the apartment the previous night itself.
The accused pair of Marvin and Ankita have amassed nearly Rs 70 lac from the gullible job aspirants. When the victims went to Madiwala police station of Bengaluru to register a complaint, the police did not take their grievance and asked them to file a complaint at Karwar police station. So the victims have filed a complaint in this regard at Karwar police station.
