Mangaluru, Sep 11: Nishal (21), who was a resident of Pandith House at Thokkottu and student of a private college in the city, slipped and fell into a deep ancient pond located at Kukkalige, Badaga Yekkar here. Nishal was trying to swim in the pond when he fell into the water. His death occurred due to drowning at around 2 pm on Tuesday, September 10.
Nishal was accompanied by his friends, Tejas, Ritesh, Rajesh, Arun, Varun, Rakshit, Keerthan and Nikhil. As the college had a holiday on Tuesday, the group of friends reportedly were on a visit of a friend living in Neerude.
In the afternoon, the boys went into the said pond at Kukkalige, located in a deserted area of Yekkar. Nishal slipped and fell into a spot where the water in the pond is quite deep. He did not know how to swim. It is said that none of the boys knew swimming. When the group shouted for help, some locals rushed to the spot and brought the boy out of water. However, by then Nishal was no more.
A complaint of unnatural death was registered in Bajpe police station about this incident on the basis of report filed by relative of Nishal, Santosh Kumar.
