Mangaluru: Art will strengthen only when one gets trained - Fr Wilfred Prakash D'Souza

Mangaluru, Sep 2: "Even in today's mobile world, these youths are getting trained in drama and are contributing to the Konkani drama field. Mandd Sobhann art is contributing significantly for the development of Konkani culture. Any art will get strengthened when people are trained in it. It is our duty to partake in such programmes and encourage them," said Fr Wilfred Prakash D'Souza, director of St Joseph engineering college of Vamanjoor.

Fr Wilfred was speaking after distributing the degrees to the students of Konkani drama repertory Kalakul for the year 2018-19 on the 213th programme of the monthly repertory series on Sunday, September 1 at Kalangann of Shaktinagar.



Manish Pinto bagged the cash prize of Rs 3,000 as the 'Best Kalakul student', Amreen, Savita and Sushmita were honoured with the 'Best Worker' award prize with a cash prize of Rs 1,000 each. Sushimita Tauro, Savita Saldanha, Amrin D'Souza, Manish Pinto and Flavia Mascarenhas, who successfully completed their one-year training were honoured with Rangabhoomi degreee. For the year 2019-20 Sherline D'Souza Permannur, Akshay Monteiro Manjeshwar, Jeevan Siddhi Mundagod, Sujaya Natasha D'Souza Valencia and as a continuation from the last year Savita Saldanha, Amreen D'Souza, Flavian Mascarenhas and Gurumurthy V S was elected as the co-trainer.

Gilbert D’Souza, on behalf of sponsor of Kalakul for the year 2019, NRI entrepreneur Michael D’Souza, Eric Ozario, Gurkhar of Mandd Sobhann, Luvi Pinto, president of Mandd Sobhann and Kishore Fernandes, secretary of Mandd Sobhann were present on the dais.

Vikas Kalakul presented the yearly report. The programme was compered by Arun Raj Rodrigues. At the end of the stage programme, new Konkani play ‘Haanv Konachi?’ was presented to the audience.
