Bengaluru: IMA case to CBI - HC directs centre to issue notification

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Aug 29: The state high court (HC), on Wednesday August 28, directed the union government to issue notification on entrusting multi-crore IMA scam in the city to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at the earliest.

A division bench of the HC which has been hearing several public interest litigations on the issue, wanted to know whether the CBI had begun investigation. Advocate for CBI, in response, said that the centre is yet to issue notification. He said that as such, the agency had not begun investigation. The bench then felt that non-issuance of notification should not come in the way of early beginning of the investigation and asked the advocate to ensure that the government issues notification in this respect early.

The bench also directed special investigation team that is probing this case to submit report in closed cover about the genuineness of gold bars belonging to IMA that had been seized by the team, which some claim to be made of pure gold.

Advocate general Prabhulinga K Navadagi, who filed compliance report on high court directions, informed that senior IAS officer, Harsh Gupta, has been appointed as full time competent authority relating to IMA case.
