Margao, Jun 25: Media persons and government servants staying in the government quarters at Margao and Mormugao, may soon receive notices from the concerned department in connection with their practice of discarding the garbage in the open.
According to sources in South Goa collectorate, people living in the vicinity of the government quarters in both the above places have complained about the nuisance caused by the above act, to the concerned municipalities. In response thereof, the concerned department will be sending notices to all the occupants, advising them to do away with the practice of disposing of their garbage in the open area.
When contacted, chairperson of Margao Municipal Council, Savio Cutinho, told this correspondent that there at least eight garbage bins have been stationed at the government quarters in Margao and MMC workers collect garbage every day from this place.
He expressed his concern about the troublesome habit cultivated by the residents residing in these quarters over the years, of throwing their garbage into the open instead of putting the same in the garbage bins. The people fill plastic sacs with garbage and dispose off them in the open. The garbage then gets scattered everywhere, he explained.
He has appealed to the people to dump the garbage in the garbage bins properly, and not to throw it out directly from their quarters, as it pollutes environment besides disturbing others.
