'Bai-Ruchi 2009' Brings Mangaloreans Together in Saudi Arabia

Al Khobar, Jun 19: Bairuchi 2009 – taste to the mouth, a food festival was held on 12th June, 2009 at Aziziyah Beach Resort organized by Mangalore Association of Saudi Arabia, Alkhobar. Around 600 people were present on this gala event. The sun was challenging with its heat people beat their drums against the challenge and stood by the organizers with great interest. 16 enthusiastic stall owners mainly the female folks came forward to display varieties of mouth watering Mangalorian cuisine.
The event was inaugurated by the President of MASA Madhav Amin accompanied by Vice president Mr. Ravi Karkera and a briefing by General Secretary Santhosh Shetty. With an unexpected record attendance of 50% more attendees than last year, the festival is sure to be fantastic event of 2009.
Stalls arrangements involving steel pipes, wooden planks and Tarpaulin done by Saudi Scaffolding Factory, Dammam with the help of their professional scaffolders.
The stalls were named like: Chakney by Violet Sequeira & Philomena Dante, Priya's Corner by Stany Mathais & party, Mini Todamane by Sujaya Karkera & Mahima Poojary, Hot Spot by Mohd Shriva & Ahmed Gulam Beary, Tammana by Sumana Shetty, Roopa Chowta, Pravina Shetty & Baghyalaxmi Rai, Jubailda BBQ Ruchi by Hema N Shetty & Fly, Mangalore to China by Sanil Bros & Fly, Byari’s Darbar by Sharief Byari & Ibrahim Byari, Kundapur Express by Richard D Almeida & Fly, Amin’s Restaurant by Malika Amin & Fly, Mumbai Chat House by Chetna Poojary, Sumana Karkera & group, Namma Kudla by Sunita Dayanand Shriyan & group, Karavali by Gopal Shetty(AMSYCO), Kudla Pan Stall by Santhosh Shetty, Akkammakka Extension by Corniche Blue Cricketers and Bachangayi Stall by Usman Hosangandi & friends.
There was a real sense of excitement and anticipation at Bairuchi Festival. The highlights of the Bairuchi Festival was most of the better known Mangalorian ethnic dishes like Kori Sukka, Jenji Sukka, Marvayi Sukka, Nai Choru, Puli Munchi, Veg Tali, Biriyani, Pundi, Neer Dose, and the very popular snack item is Bajegolida Goli Baje, biscuit roti, Kadele Bajilu, Masala Dose, Buns and Patrode. To quench the thirst there was Bachangai |Juice, Lemon Juice, Jalzeera, Falooda, Ice cream, Lassie and so on.
To have a festive feelings, variety of games like Ring Master by Ravi Karkera, Surprise Prize announcements, guessing the weight in grams and number of chick piece game and not to miss the Mangalorean traditional game, ‘Taraida Katta” (breaking the Cocunut) added beauty to the festival which was arranged by Narendra & Gopal Shetty.
The event was witnessed the most prestigious awards such as best cook, best decorated stall and the most hygienic stall which was conducted by using ballot paper in a very democratic manner. The winner of Bairuchi 2009 best cook was awarded to previous year’s Vanas 2008 winner – ”Tammana Team”. First runners up awarded to “Mumbai Chat House” and followed second runners up to “Mangalore to China”. The best decorated stall award was given to “Mangalore to China” Stall and the most hygienic Stall awarded bagged by “Namma Kudla”.
Festival reports from stall owners were good although perhaps the hot weather had put off some visitor from buying as much as they wish to eat and carry away for the week to store.
The MASA members and volunteers demonstrated best of their ability to ensure all things in order for the joyful social event.
Everyone applauded the good Samaritans, Madhav Amin, Dayanand Shriyan, Ravi Karkera and Ivan Pinto for their generous sponsorship towards Bairuchi 2009.
The thought of the day: The stall owners who put their heart and soul for the beautification of their respective stalls even in this hot weather. Hats off to all Stall owners without their participation the event would have not been a successful one. The credit goes to the ladies for being part of grand success event called Bairuchi 2009. The festival was concluded by vote of thanks by Joint Secretary Victor Sequeira.
