Bangalore, Jun 17: State JDS president, former chief minister and Bangalore Rural MP H D Kumaraswami expressed his anger at the drubbing his party received in the hands of the dwellers of this city in the Lok Sabha election. He feels, he had done a lot for the city when he was the Chief Minister and the people were expected to treat him and his party well in reciprocation thereof. He said he has also decided to pay back in the same coin, by ignoring the citizens.
"Urban people are thought to be intelligent people and I expected the people to notice what I had done for them. During my tenure, highest number of projects including road works, under passes, fly overs etc., were taken up in the city. When Puttenahalli area suffered because of heavy rains, I rushed to rescue the people of the locality. What did I get in Puttenahalli? A paltry 25 votes, as against the BJP's 600, he explained.
He however chose to put up a brave front by claiming that the JDS is not worried about not winning over the hearts of the city-dwellers. Kumaraswami by expressing the hope that the people living on the outskirts of the city, who have traditionally been with the party, will wholeheartedly support the JDS in the coming Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike election and that with their support, his party will have a sizeable presence in the Palike. As votes in civic elections come on the basis of the candidate’s influence and popularity in that ward, JDS has a fair chance. For informing the people of the city about the work done by the JDS for them, pamphlets will be brought out, he added.
Kumaraswami had also expressed his displeasure about the Bangaloreans at the membership drive of the party which was inaugurated here on Monday. He took credit for bringing Subrahmanya as the BBMP commissioner and giving an impetus to the city's development. "After doing all these things, the fact that the citizens snubbed the party has really hurt me," he had said.
