Panaji, Aug 5: Goa state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) on Sunday said it supports GoaMiles’ service, but is against the entry of taxi aggregators from outside the state. Taxi unions in Goa are on strike for the past three days demanding scrapping of GoaMiles, but the BJP government has firmly said that it will not scrap the service.
BJP general secretary Damodar Naik, congratulated chief minister Pramod Sawant and his council of ministers for the manner in which the government has handled the taxi strike. Naik while speaking to reporters said, "The state government has started GoaMiles service in the interest of Goans and it is the government which controls the GoaMiles app. “We do not want any aggregator from outside the state, like Ola and Uber to run the taxi business,” he said.
The BJP general secretary said, "As many as 1,400 taxis are registered with GoaMiles and genuine Goans are running taxis on the platform. Domestic as well as foreign tourists have appreciated the service, which also generates revenue for the state and GoaMiles provides affordable service to the tourists visiting the state."
