Puttur, Jun 11: Cases have been registered against four CPM leaders including Panaje zilla panchayat candidate Yashoda S Poojary in Sampya police station in the taluk, relating to the raids on Kunjur Panja and Macchimale anganwadi centres in the taluk by them for detecting storage of food that is past its utility. It may be noted, that after nutritious food that had become stale was found stored in a few anganwadi centres, activists have been checking anganwadi centres for stale food. These food packets are supplied to the centres for being given to the children and pregnant women.
On a complaint given by anganwadi worker Vedavati relating to the operation in Kunjur Panja anganwadi centre, the policemen have registered a case against Yashoda S Poojary, advoate B M Bhat, Ravindranath Rai and Shekhar, CPM activists. Relating to the incident at Macchimale angwanwadi centre, anganwadi worker Devaki has filed a complaint. In the complaint, the workers have said, four unidentified people rushed into their anganwadi centres without permission, created problems in their discharge of duties and posed threats.
Reacting to the registration of cases, CPM taluk secretary and advocate P K Satishan said that false cases were registered against the CPM activists by vested interests, who are frustrated over the rising popularity of the CPM. These disappointed people are now trying to browbeat the CPM activists with the help of the police department, he charged.
