Beltangady, Jun 11: The Charmadi Ghat road that had been closed for traffic from March 10 this year has been reopened from Wednesday June 10 onwards. As the works have not been completed, only light vehicles and buses are allowed to ply on the road at present.
Public works department superintending engineer R Vaikuntaiah who inspected the works on Tuesday June 9 informed that 60% of the road works have been completed and that the balance works would be undertaken after the rainy season. Heavy vehicles including ore trucks are banned from using this road, he revealed. He also said that various signboards have been put up on the Ghat road as the works have not been concluded and asked vehicle drivers to carefully drive through the Ghat road and to scrupulously abide by the instructions on the signboards.
This measure has come as a relief to thousands of people who had to take a detour to their destinations in Chikmagalur district, after traffic on this section was banned.
