Bangalore, Jun 10 (DHNS): The State government has chalked out plans to gradually increase power generation over the next three years.
Briefing reporters on Tuesday after a review meeting of the Chief Minister, Minister for Energy K S Eshwarappa said that 2,000 MW would be added to the existing 7,000 MW, in the year 2009-10.
Out of the 2,000 MW, 120 MW would be coming from Konaseema Gas Power in Andhra Pradesh, 250 MW from the yet-to-be-functional eighth unit of Raichur Thermal Power Station and 450 MW from the central grid.
Renewable energy sources including wind energy will be adding another 719 MW to the kitty.
The Minister also stated that 3,000 MW is expected to be added in 2010-11. “The idea is to increase power generation by 7000 MW in the next five years,” Eshwarappa said.
The Gundia Hydro Power project is expected to get a letter of clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Forests in a week’s time.
Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) MD S M Jaamdar said that the approval had already been granted and the letter is expected by June 15.
