Udupi, May 29: Twenty six students trained in the third batch of IIT – JEE training, ‘Vijetha’, at MICE here have been selected in IIT – JEE 2009. The examination was conducted in over 600 centres across the country. Of the 3,84,977 candidates who appeared in the examination, 10,035 candidates have been declared qualified to seek admission for the 8,295 seats in IITs, at Bubhaneshwar, Mumbai, New Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Mandi (HP), Patna, Punjab, Rajasthan and Roorkee, IT-BHU Varanasi and ISMU Dhanbad.
An Extended Merit List has also been drawn to facilitate admission to other government institutions like Indian Institute of Space-Science Technology, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology and Indian Institute of Maritime Studies.
In the previous years, the average number of candidates getting selected from Udupi and Mangalore combined together was limited to one or two and there was a general opinion that getting into IIT was impossible. MICE started its training programme with the aim of changing this opinion and this has been proved by the 24 selections in the previous 2 years, with a top AIR of 42 in the first year of training. This proves that there are very intelligent students in this region, but there was a lack of proper guidance. Now that MICE has overcome this void, by providing excellent training and guidance to the intelligent students, those aspiring to study at the IITs of the country have a new hope at hand.
