Panaji: NCC to help State Police in Election Duties

Panaji, May 28: After successful participation in the recent Lok Sabha polls, the National Cadet Corp (NCC) will continue assisting the state police and security forces in the election duties in the future, a senior official said.

“NCC cadets will continue such assignments. NCC is a part of country and it will be there in any situation when government requires the help,” NCC’s deputy director General Air Commodor Ravi Dhar said.

Dhar was in Goa to participate in the official function and was given sanman guard by the 1Goa Battallion of NCC this morning.

Referring to NCC cadets’ participation in the election duty for this Lok Sabha polls, Dhar said that the experience was excellent. “In Goa and Karnataka region itself 500 cadets doubled up with the local police and security forces in election duties,” he stated.

“It was for the first time and there was no problem absolutely wherever they were deployed. They were big assistance to the local police and security forces,” he said.

Dhar said that post-Mumbai attack, the NCC cadets can come as a big help to educate people about how to counter terrorism. “NCC cadets can guide local population making them aware about the security environment. Cadets themselves being young can be carved into a responsible citizens of India,” he said.

“Whatever we may try and do terrorists will always have surprise element with them. So when more populace is involved in looking after the security environment its better for the country,” Dhar stated.
               
The DDG said that the NCC is participating in various security coordination meetings at state and center.
