Mangaluru: Relentless barking of neighbour’s pet dogs - Police complaint filed

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jul 9: A person has complained to the police that his mental peace has gone for a toss because of incessant barking by the pet dogs of his neighbour. This incident has been reported from Kana near Suratkal.

The complainant has explained that the dogs looked after by his neighbour are not tired of barking and that because their barking habit, he has lost his peace of mind. He also said that the dogs also have been disturbing concentration of students in the area who are unable to study.

Sharat from Kana, who appears to be particularly fond of canines, has three pet dogs. At the slightest pretext, these dogs begin to make an effort to alert their owner by animatedly erupting with high-pitched barking. Some others have also complained to the police about Sharat's dogs.

The Suratkal police, who received the complaint, summoned Sharat to the station and advised him either to keep the dogs away or vacate his house. Sharat refused to honour their advice. He has stated that he has been regularly taking the dogs to veterinarians and giving those medicines properly. He said that he has been looking them after as per rules and they are healthy. It is said that one of the policemen also warned him that he would leave the dogs somewhere else if Sharat fails to comply with the advice.

This case has aroused the curiosity of the locals, who are eager to know what happens next and whether people of Kana will adjust themselves to this barking or whether the barking itself will come to an end.

I am an animal lover too.. But I get the point, after long hour of work u come back home for good sleep, if dogs bark(note it's not 1 but 3) relentlessly it's off course very annoying.. I too have a dog, but she is well trained.. The owner might be deep sleeper but what about his neighborhood.. counter answer given by the pet owner does not suffice, vaccinating ur pet is one thing but this is different problem.. off course keep ur dogs do not give it away, dogs man best friend, but train them may be.. I am afraid if this man has lost mental peace what if he harms the dogs, logically sleep deprivation leads to many things.. anger etc..

No no. I have experienced this too in subashnagar 3rd main cross manglore.
Barking and alerting is one thing. That is once. I have experienced where there is one pet dog. That barks whole night. It dosnt bark much during day. It keeps barking on and on n we all hope it stops but it never does. The barking can go in while night. It starts exactly around the time when one settles down to sleep. And when you have close by houses where the barking penetrates n disturbs your sleep completely it affects your health. And this is a course of concern.
There has to be a solution to this as the pet cannot turnout to be a nuisance to the neighbors

I grew up with a dog in the house but that breed barks only when it is necessary. Now we have imported breeds and cross breeds, some of them are not suitable for Indian weather and food. Yes, relentless barking is so annoying. It is owner's responsibility to train the dogs accordingly. Trained dogs don't bark without any provocation.

One can have animals, pets as they want in their houses but limited please.Three are too much I feel .

I can understand all of them start barking all the time, anybody might loose the mind specially ,not only these three but other dogs around give their company ,or one is sick wants some peace of mind.Important is who loves pet also understand their (pets) situation They are bound all the time,no outgoing at all.does one person want to be bound like that inside his house?Thats not the love for animal.second pets should be trained and can.Not for every passing dog or person ,to bark. Not enough to take to doctor for check up, give medicine. One should understand pets needs too.In the name of love pets, shouldnt forget they too want some freedom ,they too want some love from owner.Let them take out .or spend some time with them playing or so,So peace will be there to undertake to calm them.Peace with neighbour too is important.

I know exactly how it feels, i had a neighbor who had a dog which used to continuously bark because i felt he was not taking proper care and kept it tied all the time. But luckily for me he sold his house and left and i got my peace back. I still feel for the dog though may that innocent creature gets his freedom from his owner

Dog's are more humans, then most humans living in our society !!!!!! There love, loyalty, is supreme and unconditional.... They love, respect, protect, their master's , their families n possessions.... They howl only if they are mistreated, sick, hungry or need of affection.... People who have complained must be counseled n educated !!!

We are adopting the foreign way of living but its according to Indian style.
In foreign the government will not allow the pets to bark loudly and do anything dirty on the public place. Indians want animals I.e dogs, cats, cows etc and leave the in public places when they are old. No punishment from government authority.

We should not disturb others. If dogs are barking very loudly then Sharath should move the dogs to some other place. Police are doing an excellent job to restore peace of mind of the disturbed neighbours.

Every human beings needs 8 hour sleep for a healthy living. And when this 8 hour sleep is disturbed he has every right to file a complaint to the police. When suppose a dog barks in the middle while you are deep sleep it is always tough to get sleep once again. This may give rise to blood pressure and so on.

    Elwyn Goveas, Valencia,
I fully agree with your with your comments. Even in US this menace by barking dogs which disturb the neighbors is against the laws. That is why dogs are not allowed in most apartments for the safety of the tenants.

I fully understand the complaint and the nuisance caused by the continuous barking of dogs, esp. at night. It is the Owner's responsibility to check why the dog is barking and make sure the dog keeps quiet. I too am facing the same problem in my area. As a senior citizen, once out of sleep, it is very difficult to get back.

In QLD Australia not only the barking of the dogs, even continuous cow's mooing is considered as disturbance and the Council issues notice to the owners. We should have the same policy here too.

Excuse me, we humans have encroached all what the animals had, and now we complain that the dogs are barking. Our good for nothing cops now prove their rights, so as to when the dogs must bark and not. Come on grow up people.
It's their habitual process that dogs have to bark, of course Dogs can speak right.
And the cops who summoned Sharat, You people need some brains.

Imagine the plight of senior citizens, patients and students who require some peace and quiet. Street dogs do not bark all day long. Its pets which usually cause this kind of disturbance. Nobody complains against animals, birds making noises. Its only when someone's pets constantly keep making a nuisance that the neighbours gets irritated. I am going through a similar situation myself. Family members have health problems like migraine which gets worse due to such nuisance created by neighbours with pets. Not all pets behave like that. Its up to the owner to check why they are barking and calm them. Only those who are facing such a situation will understand.

Noise pollution due to incessant barking of dogs.
Only those who are facing such situation would know better.
These dogs may keep themselves over busy during night time watching a cat or any passer by or stray digs in the vicinity.
