Belthangady, May 25: Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), affiliated to All India Democratic Women’s Association and the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha, laid siege to the Balenja gram panchayat office in Belthangady taluk from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The protestors demanded supply of water through public taps. The water supply through public taps had been stopped in the village following a government circular, issued during H.D. Kumaraswamy’s regime as Chief Minister. They also sought implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).
