Bantwal, June 30: Bormar church, which is on the verge of celebrating its Silver jubilee, celebrated 'Laudato Si' environment day on Sunday, June 30.
This programme was conducted as per the guidance given by Pope Francis and Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese Dr Peter Paul Saldanha.
The programme was inaugurated by handing over a plant to Fr Gregory Pereira, parish priest of the church by Roshan Boniface Martis, vice-president of church parish council.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Gregory said, "Everyone has to love the environment. When we plant saplings, water them and see them grow, we see the love of God in them. Protection of the environment is the responsibility of every citizen." He requested the children to plant the sapling which he received in the campus of the church and protect and make it grow.
Secretary Lancy Pereira was present. More than 500 saplings were distributed to parishioners as part of the programme.
