Beltangady: Woman from Kodimbala village succumbs to suspected dengue

Beltangady, Jun 27: In a suspected case of dengue, Veena (43), wife of Anand Naik from Kukkerebettu of Kodimbala village in the taluk breathed her last at a hospital in Mangaluru on Wednesday June 26 morning. She failed to respond to treatments given by the doctors.

The lady was being treated in a private hospital at Kadaba for some time. As the doctors could not bring down her fever, she had been shifted to KMC Hospital Mangaluru on June 24.

The deceased is survived by husband, a son, and a daughter.

Since the last two months, several villages including Renjilady, Kodimbala and Noojibalthila villages in the taluk have been suffering from suspected dengue and are under treatment. The death of the above woman on account of suspected dengue has made the people of the region panicky.

An estimated 50 families in and around Kodimbala have been affected by unexplained fever. Some of the patients have chosen to get treated at Mangaluru or Puttur. A few from the region including Leelavathi Amu Shetty from Kodimbala, Gulabi Palappe, Bharathi Uderi and Manohar Uderi are getting treated at a private hospital at Deralakatte.

Dakshina Kannada district health officer, Dr Ramakrishna Rao, said that medical camps continue to function at Arakerebail and Gorakshaka Dandu areas from where suspected dengue cases were reported. He said that this fever is under control now and no new dengue cases were reported on Wednesday.
